GNAT for *BSD and *Solaris

I’m currently not a *BSD or *Solaris user, but I can still recognize the gargantuan effort put in by the people behind the DragonLace project.

Their mission:

This site has two functions. The first to serve as a center for for bringing the GNAT Ada compiler to DragonFlyBSD, FreeBSD, OpenBSD, NetBSD, and Solaris/OpenSolaris. Only FreeBSD and OpenBSD had any form of GNAT based on GCC 4 series and none of the BSDs are officially supported by the Free software Foundation with regards to GNAT. The second function is to serve as a center for melding the GNAT front-end of GCC to the LLVM compiler directly.

With both AdaCore and FSF ignoring GNAT for *BSD and *Solaris, this project is a very welcome addition to the Ada community.

Even if you don’t use any of the *BSD or *Solaris operating systems, it is worth visiting the DragonLance website for their re-imagined Ada Lovelace.
